Mother’s Day tradition
Editor: It’s been 15 years since the first Cloverdale Kiwanis sponsored Mother’s Day Breakfast, and what a tradition. Speaking of traditions, if you’ve got one for Mother’s Day that doesn’t include the Kiwanis breakfast, then maybe it’s time to revisit what you are doing.
The menu includes: pancakes, sliced ham, scrambled eggs, fresh strawberries, and several choices of beverage. We’ve even been known to make a Mickey Mouse pancake for those who request it. Every mother who walks in the door will receive a rose. In addition, attendees will be given the opportunity to take a family portrait. What a precious memory for all time. The price is right – just $9 for adults and $4 for children. But, maybe even more importantly, all the proceeds from this event will be used to reward deserving students at Cloverdale High School with academic scholarships. So, reward yourself with a fantastic breakfast, and in the process know that you are doing a very good deed.
Here are the details of the event. It’s being held on Sunday, May 8, at the Cloverdale High School cafeteria from 8 to 11:30 a.m. We hope many of you in Cloverdale start a new Mother’s Day tradition and that we see you all there.

Voice concerns at May 9 board meeting
Editor: We are writing to express our concern about the recent Cloverdale High School Vice-Principal hiring decision. It is inconceivable to us that the person hired has stronger qualities or experience for the position than Mr. Lucchetti.
As former colleagues, with firsthand knowledge of Mr. Lucchetti’s many attributes, we feel the decision to bypass him for the VP position at CHS is an egregious error. This hiring decision was tainted by some other agenda not in the best interests of the students at Cloverdale High; the explanation that this was meant to be a promotion for Mr. Lucchetti is an after-the-fact attempt to whitewash this hiring error.
Mr. Lucchetti has successfully been the defacto Vice-Principal for many years at the high school. He has always taken the time to know his students. He listens to them, advises them with wisdom and authority, and provides a sterling role model.
He works tirelessly and selflessly, and his integrity is unquestioned. He is universally admired by students, teachers, parents, and staff. It is astonishing that the CUSD administration cannot recognize Mr. Lucchetti’s full value at CHS, nor appreciate the essential role he plays in Cloverdale High School’s future success.
Anyone concerned with the future of Cloverdale High School should attend the May 9 board meeting to voice their concerns to the CUSD School Board and Superintendent Decker.

River Road is being neglected
Editor: I live in Palomino Lakes outside of Cloverdale and for four weeks now there has been a pile of garbage laying in front of the Asti summer bridge.
Last week I noticed that some of the polystyrene cushioning was drifting away from an old couch that is there and down to the Russian River where various animals could easily ingest this and die, including the steelhead and salmon that are protected while we have to wait so long every year to get the bridge put in.
So on Earth Day, my five-year-old daughter and I spent some time picking up as much as we could and carried it away in our little car.
For 13 years I have lived here and River Road has never been adequately repaired and now it seems it is also a refuse site that the county cares little about. We all pay taxes, so why is River Road being so neglected? I have been in so-called third world countries that have better roads than this.
