Pick up swag and help the senior center
EDITOR: The Cloverdale Senior Center will be having a fundraising event on March 18 that is sure to be fun for the whole family. Kids, crafters, promgoers and elegant dressers will all find something to enjoy among the gently used jewelry pieces and evening purses. Items will go for as low as a $1, with most things under $10. Many of the things on offered are worth significantly more, so it’s a great opportunity to pick up a bargain. There will be cornbread and chili offered for sale also. Come join the fun and contribute to the Senior Center.
The fun-raising event will take place on Saturday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center, 311 N. Main Street, Cloverdale.

Thanks to Gunnink recital sponsors
EDITOR: We are lucky that on the 24th of this month Cloverdale’s own Katherine Gunnink, internationally known soprano, will giving a rare recital. She will be singing works from the operatic repertoire as well as numbers from Gershwin, Copeland and Cole Porter.
I remember, has it been at least 20 years ago, that my wife attended a school function and little Katherine Gunnink sang the national anthem. My wife and I looked at each other, speechless. What a voice, we thought. We just couldn’t believe it. She could really be something. We were so gratified to hear of her triumph at the Teatro di Roma. (Not an easy audience.)
I would like to publicly thank the sponsors listed below for making the Katherine Gunnink recital possible: Donna Arnstein, Cynthia De Martini, Julie Dilley and Thomas Foster, Dobie Edmunds and Thomas King, Jack Fitzsimmons and Walter Gendell, James and Suzanne Gunnink, Lee Hundt and Joan Meisel, Bob and Jennifer Jordan, Joyce Mann, David McChesney, Niranjana Parthasarathi and Dan FitzSimmons, Roger and Ann Quintin, Bob Scott and Tim McDonald, Art and Nan Trujillo and of course, anonymous. (Please forgive me if I left anyone out.)
If it weren’t for them, the tickets would not be so reasonably priced and I doubt very much if I would be able to attend. So, thank you again to the sponsors as well as to the CPAC. You’re the best.
If you want a preview, you can hear Katherine sing Puccini’s ‘Vissi d’arte’ from ‘Tosca’ on YouTube. You may not be a fan of opera now, but listen to this and you just might become one.
