Republicans hate it when there is an increase in the deficit.
The tax plan passed by the House of Representatives last week drastically increases the deficit and adds as much as $1.7 trillion to the national debt. The tax plan passed by the House insures the rich will get richer and the regular folk will get poorer. The House tax plan was passed by a vote of 227 yeas to 205 nays.
The tax plan will harm working families across our congressional district, drive up the deficit, and lavish a huge tax windfall on the wealthiest Americans and big corporations. This tax bill raises taxes on as many as 38 million middle class families making less than $75,000 a year.
Trickle-down economics does not work. Giving huge tax cuts to millionaires and corporations does not improve working conditions, increase wages, or create jobs. The tax bill imposes unique costs to Californians by limiting federal income tax deductions for the state and local taxes we pay.
The House tax bill will trigger massive automatic cuts to Medicare, increase interest rates for student loans, and eliminate the funding of other important programs every year for the next 10 years.
The Senate also has a tax plan that will be voted on after Thanksgiving. The Senate tax plan drastically increases the deficit. The Senate tax plan also calls for a massive tax cut for the wealthy and corporations. The Senate’s tax plan includes an amendment that will repeal a critical part of Obamacare, causing 13 million Americans to lose their health coverage.
Grassroots organizing and activism can help prevent the passage of cruel and unjust legislation such as this.
