The Lady Jaguars saw their losing skid reach four games last week, dropping a pair of well-played decisions to Cardinal Newman and Maria Carrillo.
The setbacks pushed Windsor’s North Bay League mark to 3-7 and 6-12 on the season.
This week the Jags continue the final stretch of the NBL schedule with upcoming games at Rancho Cotate (May 3, after press time), and home versus Casa Grande on Thursday, May 5 (4 p.m.). Windsor will visit San Rafael in a non-league clash on Saturday, May 7 (11 a.m.) and return home to host Montgomery on Senior Day on Tuesday, May 10 (4 p.m.). The Jaguars will close out the season at Ukiah on May 12 (4 p.m.).
Despite being reduced to spoilers, the Jaguars remain hopeful of a strong league finish.
“I’ve been impressed with how most of the girls have performed in practice, and on a really good day we can beat any team in the NBL,” an upbeat WHS coach Shannon Pellman said. “We’re going to focus on attitude and effort, play as hard as we can, and win as many games as we can.”
Jags drop a pair
Windsor opened last week’s action with an April 26 home tilt with Cardinal Newman, sending freshman starter Kayla Scott to the hill opposite Cardinal pitcher Lexi Raasch. Newman struck for a solo run in the first, but the game hung in the balance until the visitors iced it with a three-run seventh en route to a 5-0 win.
Scott (7 IP, 8 hits, 4 ERs, 6 Ks) pitched well in defeat, while top hitters were Alyssa DeCasas (1 for 3), Maddie Pellman (1 for 3), and Allison Post (1 for 3).
The ladies played host to Maria Carrillo on April 28, again struggling to get the big hit with runners on base. The Pumas tallied solo runs in the first and second, and pushed across two insurance runs in the final frame in a 4-1 win.
Scott (7 IP, 9 hits, 3 ERs, 5 Ks) took the loss. Swinging hot bats for Windsor were Shay Mendoza (2 for 3, 2B, RBI), Scott (2 for 3, 2B), DeCasas (1 for 3, 3B, run), and Caitlyn Murphy (1 for 3).
