Windsor wraps up season with 7-15 record
The varsity softball Jaguars put the final wraps on a challenging North Bay League season last week, dropping home and away decisions to Montgomery and Ukiah.
The result gave Windsor a final league mark of 4-10 and 7-15 on the year.
Although their final record didn’t meet their season goals, the team was upbeat on the prospects going forward.
“All in all there were a lot of positives from this year,” WHS coach Shannon Pellman said. “Our young pitchers got plenty of experience and improved as the year went on. They should be much more effective next year after this season and summer travel ball.”
Jags wrap up schedule
Windsor celebrated Senior Day in the May 10 clash with visiting Montgomery, honoring graduating veterans Ashlynn Wells and Rebecca Thomas in a pre-game ceremony.
The Jags sent freshman hurler Kayla Scott to the hill opposite Vikings starter Anna Zoia-Buescher. Montgomery jumped on top with a solo run in the second, adding two more in the third en route to a 5-0 win.
Scott (7 IP, 11 hits, 5 ERs, 3 Ks) pitched well in defeat, while leading hitters were Scott (2 for 3), Camille Kahnberg (1 for 3, 2B), Ashley Golding (1 for 3), Alyssa DeCasas (1 for 3) and Natalia Baca (1 for 3).
Windsor made the trip to Ukiah in the season finale on May 12, staking starter Caitlyn Murphy to a 5-2 lead after three. The wheels came off in the bottom of the fourth, as the Wildcats plated seven runs on their way to a 9-5 win.
Murphy (3 IP, 5 hits, 2 ERs, 2 Ks) and Scott (3 IP, 9 hits, 6 ERs, K) shared mound duties, while leading batters included Shay Mendoza (3 for 4, 2B, RBI), Wells (2 for 4, 2 runs), Maddie Pellman (1 for 3, 2B, run, 2 RBIs), DeCasas (1 for 4), Allison Post (1 for 2) and Thomas (1 for 3, run, 2 RBIs).
“We played better this week, but still not good enough,” coach Shannon Pellman noted. “The little things are the difference between good and great, and we have to do a better job in those areas.”
The future looks bright for the Jaguars, who are expected to return all but two players to the team next year.
“We have a solid core of committed younger players to build with, so I’m looking forward to a more successful season next year,” Pellman said. “I know we can compete effectively in the NBL, but it has to be a complete team effort.”
