Brandon Mallie is one of a solid core of returning players to the boys varsity basketball team this year.

The Jaguars couldn’t have asked for a better start in their season basketball opener at San Marin on Nov. 26, using a balanced scoring attack and solid defense to notch a 61-50 win.
Windsor (1-0) will resume preseason action this Thursday-Saturday (Dec. 1-3) in the annual Fred Iten Tournament hosted by Ukiah. The Jags will open the tourney on Dec. 1 in a 4 p.m. clash with Fort Bragg.
Although its early in the season, Saturday’s visit to San Marin could be a harbinger of good things to come for a Windsor team with playoff aspirations.
“We have a lot of room to keep improving, but the team is getting better each week,” Jags coach Travis Taylor said. “This was a good win to start the year.  San Marin is well coached and always a very solid program.”
The Jaguars got great contributions from their entire bench, erasing a 17-11 first-quarter deficit with a strong run in the second period for a 27-26 edge at the half. The Jags clung to a 44-43 lead following a tight third quarter, but put the hammer down in the final period in powering to a 61-50 win.
Forward Riley Smith paced the Windsor attack with a team-high 25 points and 6 rebounds. Other big contributors were Ethan Wright (11 points), Brock Tolson (9 points), Justin Smith (5 points, 5 rebounds), and Travis Carlozzi (6 points, 5 boards, 5 assists).
Alumni game a big hit
The Jaguars held the annual Alumni Game on Nov. 24, as the varsity squad squared off with former Windsor stars in a spirited battle. Chalk this one up to the 2016/17 Jags, as they emerged with a hard-fought 64-56 win.
Leading point-getters for the varsity team were Riley Smith (21), Carlozzi (12), Justin Smith (9), Tolson (9), Brandon Mallie (6), Wright (3) and Whaley (4). Top scorers for the alumni included Kameron Keich (15), Brent Tucker (14) and Tanner Giddings (13).
