Windsor improves to 6-3; hosts Ukiah on Friday in league finale
The varsity football Jaguars are raising their game to a playoff level this month, jumping all over visiting Casa Grande on Friday in a 48-14 romp.
The Jags put it all together against the Gauchos, mixing a balance of pass and run while turning in a swarming defensive effort to record their sixth win of the campaign.
Windsor (3-3, 6-3) will close out the North Bay League season this Friday, Nov. 4 when it plays host to Ukiah on Senior Night. Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
Ukiah (4-2, 6-3) is in the midst of a resurgent campaign, entering this week’s contest riding a two-game win streak, including a 41-31 win over Montgomery on Friday.
The Wildcats figure to pose a good test for the Jags, with both teams figuring to land an NCS playoff berth this month.
Jags too much for Gauchos
Windsor got off to a strong start in the Oct. 28 meeting with Casa Grande, as quarterback Kobe Roman set the tone with a 58-yard touchdown run early in the opening quarter.
The Gauchos answered with a 68-yard score on a long pass to knot the contest at 7-7.
The Jags took a lead they would not relinquish later in the period, finding pay-dirt on a 68-yard pass play from Roman to receiver Patrick Tappin.
Windsor closed out an explosive period when running back Jackson Baughman scored on a 3-yard burst for a 21-7 lead at the end of one.
The Jaguars busted the game wide open in the second quarter, as Roman hooked up with Jorgen Sargains (10 yard pass), followed by a 20-yard touchdown scamper by Baughman as Windsor took a commanding 35-7 advantage at the break.
The Jaguars dug in for a defensive second half, adding to their lead with a 72-yard scoring pass from Roman to Baughman for a 41-6 cushion after three.
Windsor answered a fourth-quarter Casa score with a 7-yard touchdown burst from Alezzio Stra en route to a 48-14 rout.
Roman turned in one of his best efforts of the season, completing 6 of 11 pass attempts for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding 101 yards on 9 carriers and a score.
Other offensive leaders included Baughman (9-153 yards rushing, TD, 72 yards receiving, TD), Tappin (1-68 yards receiving, TD) and Sarganis (2-40 yards receiving, TD). There were no defensive stats available.
