Windsor will host Casa Grande this Friday, Oct. 28
The varsity football Jaguars hit a bump in the road in their Oct. 21 visit to North Bay League power Cardinal Newman, as the Cardinals wore down a game Windsor squad to win going away, 51-14.
The setback pushed the Jag’s NBL record to 2-3 and 5-3 on the season.
Windsor will quickly turn the page to the next task at hand – a Friday, Oct. 28 home clash with Casa Grande.
The Gauchos (2-3, 3-5) are riding a two-game win streak after posting wins over Maria Carrillo and Montgomery and figures to be a stiff challenge for the Jags this week.
Newman in a rout
The Jaguars found the sledding tough in Friday’s visit to Cardinal Newman, yielding a pair of rushing touchdowns to spot the hosts a 14-0 lead at the end of one.
After four straight three and outs, Windsor quarterback Kobe Roman had his team on the move early in the second period, with running back Jackson Baughman capping a solid drive with a 3-yard scoring run to cut the deficit to 14-7.
Newman answered with a 35-yard field goal, but the Jags countered on their next possession when senior back David Escarcega found pay-dirt on a 5-yard burst to make it a 17-14 ballgame.
It would be the high water mark of the night for the Jaguars, as Newman finished the half with scoring drives resulting in a 6-yard run and a 35-yard touchdown pass to grab a 30-14 lead at the break.
The Jags had no answer for Newman quarterback Jordan Brookshire in the third quarter, leading the Cardinals on successive touchdown drives resulting in a 2-yard run, a 15-yard pass and a 5-yard run to open up a 37-point lead.
With a running clock the Cardinals went to a ground attack in the final period en route to a 51-14 win.
