It was an historic weekend for Our Lady of Guadalupe Church’s Catholic Youth Organization basketball program. Five boys teams came home with the championship plaque while another grabbed a 2nd place medal. OLG went three for three on Saturday.
The first team crowned was Coach Jason Kraft’s 5th grade Division 1 team. They defeated St. Apollinaris 43-34. That was followed by Coach Rene Meza’s 6th grade Division 3 win over the same Napa parish. Joey Meza led OLG scorers with 14. The last game of the day was all OLG in a blowout. Coach Dave Earl’s 7th grade Division 3 team bested St. Vincent by a 54-22 mark.
Sunday started with Coach Josh Leo’s 6th grade Division 5 team completing a perfect 12-0 league campaign with a 34-29 win over St. Peter. Coach Mark Stainer’s 5th grade Division 4 team defeated St. Eugene 21-17 to record back to back championships. In 6th grade Division 2 play Coach Enrique Vigil’s squad fell 43-20 to St. Elizabeth.
