Lady Jags edge Wildcats; stay unbeaten
The WHS varsity boys fell from the ranks of the North Bay League unbeaten on Jan. 25, falling to visiting Ukiah on Senior Night, 49-21.
The Jaguars (4-1) fell into second place in the NBL standings, while Ukiah improved to 5-0.
The defending NBL champion Jags entered the meet at less than full strength with injuries to top wrestlers Perez D. Perez and Luke Au Yeung among a host of others. The missing veterans, coupled with forfeits in four weight classes and a senior-laden Wildcat’s squad, proved too much for the Jaguars to overcome.
“It was a tough night missing five of our starters,” WHS head coach Rich Carnation reported. “The funny thing is, just having Perez and Luke in the line-up would have made it a three-point match. When we get healthy we’ll get revenge at the NCS Duals,” he added.
Claiming mat wins against Ukiah were 108-pound Brennan Tamayo (by pin), 128-pound Brennan Brown (by 11-5 decision), 140-pound Trent Silva (by pin) and 162-pound Steven Allee (by pin).
Girls stay unbeaten
The Lady Jaguars (5-0) got one step closer to their first-ever NBL title against Ukiah, narrowly defeating the second-place Wildcats 42-36. Although the meet featured several forfeits, the Jags captured wins in four weight classes to Ukiah’s three.
Scoring mat victories for Windsor were 116-pound Andrea Rocha (by pin), 121-pound Citalli Santiago (by pin), 126-pound Annette Delapena (by pin) and 170-pound Azucena Montesinos (by pin).
Jags medal in tournament
On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Jaguars took a five-man contingent to the Trojan War Tournament at Oak Ridge High School, with three athletes taking home medals.
Senior 197-pound Aiden Henry led the charge with a first-place medal, while other medalists included Steven Allee (2nd place, 162 pounds) and Kevin Correa (3rd place, 220 pounds). Also competing for Windsor were Nick Landeros and Alex Cruz.
