Sophomore Caitlyn Murphy is one of eight returning veterans to a strong Windsor High School softball squad this season.

Jags alum Morgan Rasmason takes over as head coach
The Morgan Rasmason-era is off to a winning start for the Lady Jaguars, as the first-year varsity softball coach points the team towards a resurgent 2017 campaign.
A former all-leaguer for the Lady Jags before graduating in 2012, Rasmason went on to star at the University of Texas El Paso. She returned to Windsor last year, taking the reigns from former head coach Shannon Pellman.
Windsor graduated just two players from last year’s 7-15 squad and figures to be much improved this spring, buoyed by a group of eight returning veterans that are both skilled and experienced.
“We’re not looking to waste any time rebuilding,” Rasmason said. “We’ve got a great group of girls that can hit but our emphasis will be on base-running and team defense. I think our pitching is very solid,” she added.
The list of returning veterans includes fourth-year seniors; outfielder Maddie Pellman and catcher Shay Mendoza, third-year senior utility-player/DH Ashley Golding, sophomore second baseman/pitcher Caitlyn Murphy, junior third baseman Camille Kahnberg, junior outfielder Alyssa DeCasas, junior first baseman Natalia Baca and sophomore pitcher/first baseman Kayla Scott.
Sophomore Sydney Hage is a talented second-year sophomore pitcher/first baseman who transferred from Cloverdale.
Also bolstering the team are first-year varsity players; sophomore catcher/infielder Anis Acevedo, senior utility-player Halle Fehr, freshman outfielder Averie Gehrett, freshman catcher Kassandra Jaramillo and freshman shortstop Gracie Hernandez.
Jags notch win
Windsor got off to a strong start in the season opener at San Rafael on March 1, riding the strong arm of sophomore pitcher Kayla Scott in a 1-0 victory. Scott was masterful, yielding just four hits and a walk while fanning 10 to notch the win. Leading the offensive attack were DeCasas (2 for 3), Hernandez (1 for 3) and Pellman (1 for 3, RBI).
The Jaguars will resume pre-league action on Mar. 6 (after press time) at Terra Linda, followed by a Wednesday, Mar. 8 visit to Sonoma Valley (3:30 p.m.). Windsor returns home to host Kelseyville next Tuesday, Mar. 14 in a 4 p.m. start.
