Windsor will host Cardinal Newman on April 12
The varsity baseball Jaguars took one on the chin in their lone North Bay League outing of the week on April 5, weathering a 12-3 drubbing at the hands of visiting Maria Carrillo.
The setback extended Windsor’s overall record to 7-7 and evened their NBL mark to 2-2, while the Pumas improved to 3-2 in league and 5-6 on the year.
The Jags will resume league action at home on Wednesday, April 12 against Cardinal Newman, followed by a Friday, April 14 road trip to Montgomery. First pitch for both games is 4 p.m.
Long afternoon
The April 5 meeting with Maria Carrillo didn’t take long to go south, as the visiting Pumas used solid hitting and a few fortunate hops to plate six runs in the opening frame.
The game continued to unravel when Jaguars’ starting pitcher Travis Broadhead was tossed out for arguing a call in the bottom of the inning, prompting Tanner Kane to the mound in emergency relief duty.
The Jags scratched for a solo run in the first and fourth, but another six-run explosion by the Pumas effectively ended any Windsor comeback hopes en route to a 12-3 Carrillo victory.
Broadhead took the loss, while Noah Rennard allowed four hits in four innings to notch the win for the Pumas. Top Windsor hitters included Kobe Roman (1 for 3), J.T. Stadum (1 for 1, 2B, 2 runs), Toli Partida (1 for 2) and Jaren Silva (1 for 3).
