Windsor beats Ukiah, Healdsburg; improves to 7-6
The Jaguars continued to roll on the varsity baseball diamond last week, claiming two wins in three outings, including a key 8-4 league victory over Ukiah.Â
Windsor began the stretch on March 29 with a tough 2-1 loss at Rancho Cotate and followed up Friday’s win over the Wildcats with a 9-3 non-league rout at Healdsburg.
The result pushed the Jags’ season record over the .500 mark at 7-6 and 2-1 in the North Bay League.
At press time Windsor was preparing for a two-game home-stand starting on April 5 against Maria Carrillo, followed by a Wednesday, April 12 date with Cardinal Newman. Both game times start at 4 p.m.
Jags take two
The March 29 visit to Rancho Cotate was scoreless through the first two innings until the Cougars pushed across a run in the third. The Jaguars scratched for a run in the sixth to send the game into extra innings knotted at 1-1. Rancho plated the winning run in the eighth for a 2-1 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Hellums took the loss, while top hitters included Ethan Wright (2 for 3) and Hellums (1 for 1).
The Jags were back in the friendly confines for their league home opener on Friday, giving winning pitcher Tanner Kane all he’d need with a six-run rally in the fifth en route to an 8-4 win. Senior Travis Broadhead (3 for 4, HR, 3 RBIs) highlighted the attack, while Toli Partida (2 for 3) also swung a hot bat.
Windsor sent Eric Begley to the mound in a non-league visit to Healdsburg on April 1, putting up zeroes through the first three frames while his team built a 6-0 lead. Begley (7 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 5 Ks) went the distance in a strong effort as the Jags powered to an eventual 9-3 win.
Pacing the Windsor hit squad were Kobe Roman (3 for 6, 2B, 2 runs, RBI) Hellums (2 for 3, run), Patrick Tappin (2 for 4, 2B, run), Wright (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Begley (1 for 3, 2B, run, RBI), Broadhead (1 for 3, run), Partida (1 for 2) and Tanner Tobon (2 RBIs).
