Three teams from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church will play for the championship next week in North Bay Catholic Youth Organization play. OLG had eight teams in the semi-finals played last weekend.
Coach Mike Mullins’ seventh grade girls team needed a fourth quarter comeback rally to defeat St. Francis of Sonoma 30-28. The local girls were down 28-27 with 10 seconds left on the clock when Sophia Ganino rebounded a missed free throw and put it back in to give OLG the lead for good. Ganino finished with 12 points to lead all scorers. Emma Smith added six while Annabel Braunstein scored five to round out the top scorers.
Dylan Webb’s 13 points led Coach Rod Harris’ fourth grade boys to a 40-20 win over St. Francis. Brayden Black followed with nine points. Coach Dave Avila’s sixth grade girls advanced to the finals with a 31-11 win over St. Elizabeth of Rohnert Park. Taylor Boyce and Mia Avila led OLG with 12 and 11 points respectively.
OLG CYO Basketball is open to boys and girls, of all skill levels, in third through eighth grades; 265 kids played this season. For more information send an email to
