The Windsor High School cross country team continued its North Bay League Redwood Division schedule on Oct. 10 at neighboring Riverfront Park, easily defeating host El Molino and Cardinal Newman in a hotly contested tri-meet.
The races were run on an abbreviated 2.55-mile trail and featured outstanding performances from Windsor’s varsity and JV runners.

“Overall, it was a good start to our season,” Jags’ coach Pete Stefanisko reported. “We still have three meets left, with probably our toughest challenge coming against Analy on Oct. 31 at Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol.”

Senior Lucas Chung continued a remarkable season with a sensational winning time of 12:47, averaging a sizzling five minutes per mile.

“El Molino’s outstanding runner Brian Shultz averaged 5:17 per mile (on the old Riverfront Park course) for a 14:32,” Stefanisko noted. “Lucas averaged 5:00, which would have projected out to a 13:47, so I think he would have easily beaten the old course record.”
Rounding out the top five finishers for the varsity boys were freshman standout Dustin Smith (2nd, 13:54), junior Hunter Larson (3rd, 13:56), Landon McAllister (4th, 14:18) and Adrian Burger (12th, 15:32).
The Lady Jaguars were equally impressive in winning the varsity girls race, led by freshman phenom Lilja Chung in a winning effort of 16:30. She was followed by Erin O’Mara (2nd, 17:10), Nataleigh Johnson (3rd, 17:50), Ava Smith (4th, 18:14), Jayda Pignataro (7th, 19:15), Prissilla Tucker (8th, 19:25), Erica Hovland (12th, 19:33) and Cisneros (19th, 23:17).
The Jaguars captured the first six places in the JV boys race, led by Marquez Vigil (15:56), Valentino Bugica (16:01), Robert Carrillo (16:05) and Garrett Melvin (16:32).
