The Windsor High School cross-country squad continued to round into form on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the annual Viking Opener held at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa.
The meet, held on the abbreviated two-mile course, featured some two dozen schools with races contested in eight divisions including; senior boys, junior boys, junior/senior girls, frosh/soph boys frosh/soph girls and girls and boys open divisions.
Senior Lucas Chung turned in a terrific race in leading the senior boys, capturing second place in 9:56.2, just two-tenths of a second behind the first place finisher. It is the eighth best clocking of all time.
Also competing for the varsity boys were Windsor’s Michael Freitas (53rd, 12:06) and Adrian Burger (59th, 12:23). Running strong in the junior boy’s race were Hunter Larson (12th, 11:06), Steven Vail (79th, 13:40) and Alex Cruz (99th, 16:18).
Leading the way in the sophomore boy’s race were David Kvamme (42nd, 12:00), Nathan Beck (73rd, 12:10) and Ben Kvamme (76th, 12:45). Pacing the frosh boys were Dustin Smith (6th, 11:06), Tallen Theis (62nd, 13:10) and Valentino Bugia (54th, 13:00).
The Lady Jaguars fielded a small contingent of athletes, led by freshman phenom Lilja Chung, who finished the frosh/soph race in fourth place in a fast 12:52. Also competing well in the frosh/soph event were sophomore Nataleigh Johnson (23rd, 13:48) and Prisilla Tucker (66th, 15:17). Junior Erin O’Mara was the lone Windsor runner in the junior/senior race, finishing 21st overall in 13:26.
