Windsor will close out league season at Maria Carrillo on Friday
The Jaguar’s postseason football fate will likely come down to one game, as they visit Maria Carrillo this Friday, Oct. 26 in the North Bay League’s regular season finale. Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
Windsor’s chances took a hit in an Oct. 19 clash with visiting Ukiah, with the Wildcats erasing an early deficit with a strong second half to pull out a hard-fought 21-14 victory.
“The kids really played tough,” Jags’ head coach Brad Stibi said. “We had a chance to tie the game but could not get it done. Ukiah was a good team and just played better than us.”
The Jaguars enter the final game of the NBL Oak Division schedule with a league mark of 1-3 (3-6 overall) and ranked #9 in the North Coast Section Division 2 hierarchy. Maria Carrillo (0-4, 3-6) is coming off five straight losses, including a 55-10 shellacking at the hands of Cardinal Newman on Friday. The Pumas are currently ranked #13 within Division 2.
“The winner of this game should determine a lower seed berth for the NCS playoffs,” Stibi confirmed.
Jags fall to Wildcats
The Jaguar’s Oct. 19 clash with a tough Ukiah squad was yet another hard-nosed trench battle, one that looked promising early but would slip away late.
Windsor jumped out to a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter by virtue of a pair of rushing touchdowns from running backs Landan Estrela and Lorenzo Leon. Ukiah cashed in on a short touchdown run late in the second period to knot the contest at 14-all at the break.
Both defenses dug in for a gritty second half, with the score remaining deadlocked until eight minutes left in the fourth quarter when Ukiah’s Jay Jay Escamilla hauled in a 10-yard touchdown grab to give his team its first lead of the game.
Windsor mounted a couple of promising late drives that resulted in Wildcat interceptions as Ukiah hung on for a 21-14 win.
Jag’s quarterback Nick Pariani led the offense with 16 completions on 37 pass attempts for 170 yards. Top rushers included Leon (6-41 yards, TD), Jeremiah Pignataro (2-5 yards), Estrela (1-3 yards, TD) and Nick Landeros (1-1 yard). Leading pass catchers included Mikey Contreras (5-41 yards), Estrela (4-49 yards), Leon (4-26 yards), Chris Torres (1-39 yards) and Billy Boyle (2-18 yards).
Leading defenders were Leon (12 tackles, 3 assists, sack), Chris Torres (9 tackles), Pignataro (7 tackles, 1 assist), Chris Sanchez (5, 1), Estrela (4 tackles), Cy Soltanizadeh (4 tackles, sack), Santiago Garcia (4 tackles), Christian Jernigan (3, 1, sack) and Austin Jacob (tackle, sack)
