The Jaguars finished up a challenging 2018-19 North Bay League basketball campaign on Friday, coming out on the short end of a 49-42 loss to visiting Piner.
The loss, coupled with a 64-31 setback to Cardinal Newman, gave Windsor a final league mark of 1-9 and 10-16 on the season.
The inaugural NBL Oak Division lived up to advanced billing, proving to be a tough road to hoe for the Jags as they dropped their last seven games.
Jags fall to Cardinals, Prospectors
Windsor began the final week of play with a Jan. 30 visit to Cardinal Newman, as the Cardinals swamped the Jaguars in racing to a 30-13 halftime lead. Things didn’t turn around after intermission as Newman cruised to a 64-31 victory.
“We came out strong and well prepared for their full court press, but we could not turn that into points on the offensive end,” Jags coach Jared Greninger said. “Their physicality and ability to execute on the offensive end had us facing an early deficit that we could not overcome.”
Pacing the Windsor offensive attack were Jaden Ruybalid (7 points), Jack Amormino (7 points) and Christian Jernigan (6 points).
The Jaguars played host to Piner on Senior Night on Feb. 1, paying tribute to graduating veterans Jordan Merical, Andrew Corcoran and Jack Amormino before their final home game. Windsor trailed 20-15 at the half and closed the deficit to four points in the fourth quarter before the Prospectors pulled away in the final minute to post a 49-42 win.
“My guys came together for this one and had a strong performance for what was our senior’s last game as a Jaguar,” Greninger noted. “Our home crowd was an excellent source of energy for our boys, they made senior night feel like a playoff game.”
Leading the Windsor attack were Merical (16 points), Amormino (8 points), Ruybalid (6 points) and Jernigan (6 points, 9 rebounds).
