The Jaguars continued to battle in recent boys and girls varsity soccer action, as Windsor teams compete for a spot in the upper echelon of the NBL Oak Division.
The Lady Jaguars (3-1-3, 5-6-3) continued their march toward postseason, bouncing back from a well-played 1-0 loss to Analy with a 4-0 win over visiting Ukiah.
At press time the Windsor girls were holding down second place in the league standings behind Montgomery (5-1-1), and preparing to host the first-place Vikings in a showdown on Jan. 28. Windsor will visit Maria Carrillo on Jan. 31. All varsity matches start at 6 p.m.
Girls score win
The Jan. 23 clash with Analy featured playoff intensity and outstanding defense, but the Tigers would break a scoreless tie with a goal in the second half to secure a 1-0 win.
The Lady Jags were back on the pitch two nights later against visiting Ukiah, jumping all over the Wildcats for a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead. Windsor added an insurance goal after the break in an eventual 4-0 win. Goal scorers for the Jags included Bailey Campanella, Lola Gugel, Samantha Moberly and Emma Corcoran. Assists went to Emily Moberly and Corcoran while goalie Taylor Brogden recorded the shutout for Windsor.
Boys forge tie, win
The Windsor boys played some of their best soccer of the season in a pair of matches against Healdsburg and Santa Rosa, resulting in a tie and a win. The stretch began with a Jan. 23 home clash with the Greyhounds, erasing a 1-0 deficit with second-half goals from Zach Perez and Marius Bossard. The lead would not last as Healdsburg tallied a late goal to forge an eventual 2-2 tie.
“We played hard but again made a mistake and gave up an early goal in the second half,” Jags coach Gerardo Perez reported, citing freshman Alex Barragan with an outstanding effort in his first high school game. “We responded well and took the lead but couldn’t hold onto it.”
Windsor kicked off the second half of the NBL schedule on Jan. 25 at Santa Rosa, getting a goal from Marius Bossard to settle for a 1-1 tie at the half.
Despite losing Bossard to an injury, the Jaguars controlled most of the second period, getting the winning goal from senior Omar Lopez on a 30-yard laser shot to lift Windsor to a 2-1 victory.
The Jags (1-4-1, 5-7-3) will start a two-game home-stand, with scheduled matches against Montgomery (Jan. 30, 6 p.m.) and Elsie Allen (Feb. 1, 6 p.m.).
