The Lady Jaguars took their lumps in a tough stretch on the high school basketball circuit, logging consecutive NBL losses to Analy (66-41) and Cardinal Newman (71-25) before tossing in a 61-27 non-league loss to Piedmont.
The result pushed Windsor’s league record to 1-3 and 6-14 on the season.
“It was a tough week overall,” Jags’ coach Joe Passalacqua said. “It started with a bad loss to Analy, but against Cardinal Newman we simply went up against one of the strongest teams in the country. We shot the ball poorly against Piedmont and it’s tough to compete when the shots aren’t falling.”
Windsor will be back on the NBL court on Jan. 15 (after press time) at Ukiah, and return home to host Santa Rosa on Thursday, Jan. 17 (7:30 p.m.). The ladies will visit Rancho Cotate in 6:30 p.m. non-league clash on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Jags drop three
Windsor opened its latest string with a Jan. 9 home tilt with Analy, playing on even terms to trail 25-20 at the half. The Tigers broke it open with a 21-9 run in the third quarter and never looked back en route to a 66-41 romp. Senior guard Tori Russotti led the attack for the Jaguars with a game-high 24 points.
The Jaguars were no match for state-ranked Cardinal Newman on Jan. 11, as the Cardinals drained 10 three-pointers on their way to a 71-25 romp. Russotti continued a good stretch with a team-high nine points, while freshmen Grace Boyle and Sophia Romero chipped in seven points each.
The Lady Jags wrapped up a challenging week in Saturday’s non-league date with visiting Piedmont, as the Highlanders held Windsor to single digits in scoring in three of four quarters in an eventual 61-27 win. Russotti and Romero led the team with nine and eight points respectively.
