Windsor hosted 69 youth basketball teams last weekend as the hoop season opened with the 9th annual Fall Tip-Off Tournament. The event was co-hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Catholic Youth Organization Basketball program and the Town of Windsor’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The event drew an estimated 1,000 spectators to six venues around town. The tournament’s success can be attributed to the many volunteers including OLG CYO parents and Windsor High School students. Our Lady of Guadalupe entered 14 teams into the tournament.
The tournament is actually a series of 15 color-coded brackets based on team grade, gender and skill level. Coach Steve Kramer’s 4th grade boys advanced to the championship game in the orange bracket before falling to St. Rose in the title game. Other top performances came from coach Sean Anderson’s 4th grade boys, finishing 3-1 in the tan bracket, and coach Drew Woodcock’s 5th grade boys team, going 2-1 in the green bracket.
Windsor’s OLG CYO Basketball program has 25 teams and 265 boys and girls playing this season. The program is open to all kids in 3rd-8th grades. The North Bay CYO regular season begins Dec.1.
