The Lady Jaguars scored arguably their biggest lacrosse win of the season to date in their final home match against Cardinal Newman on March 28, easily dispatching the Cardinals, 14-5.
The resounding victory came fittingly on Senior Night, as the Jags paid tribute to graduating veterans Paige Dieckmann, Gianna Davis, Kaitlyn Dalton, Cassie Mann and Kelly Berndt.
Due to scheduled work on Windsor’s all-weather turf, the Jags will finish out the league schedule on the road this month.
At roughly the halfway mark of the season, Windsor is right in the thick of the league standings with a 3-2 record and 3-4 overall, with upcoming away matches scheduled at Casa Grande (April 2), Rancho Cotate (April 4), Petaluma (April 5) and Cardinal Newman (April 9). All varsity matches start at 7 p.m.
The March 28 win over Newman was of particular significance, representing the first time Windsor had ever defeated the Cardinals.
“Notching the first ever program win in such a dominant fashion against Newman was especially memorable for our five seniors,” Jags assistant coach Aaron Piotter said. “The objective for the second half is to try to figure out how to beat Casa Grande and run the table against the rest of the league. Expectations are to finish second in league and think about a run in NCS playoffs,” he added.
Windsor has recorded first half victories over Rancho Cotate (19-4), Sonoma Academy (8-3) and Cardinal Newman (14-5), with losses coming to unbeaten Casa Grande (12-6) and second place Justin Siena (11-7).
Team scoring leaders through the midway point are junior Elka Piotter (14 goals), sophomore Hailey Toste (11 goals) and juniors Ashlee Crowley (10 goals) and Ashley McBride (9 goals).
The Lady Jags were dealt a blow when sophomore standout Siena Grace was lost to a season-ending knee injury, but recently called up sophomores Callie Cooper and Paige Phinney from the JV squad to bolster the roster.
Senior three-time all-league goalie Dieckmann has been stellar in front of the net again this season, a key reason for the team’s success.
“Paige hasn’t skipped a beat following her third first-team all-league season and looks to garner similar accolades this year,” Piotter noted. “She’s been the glue of this very cohesive and stout defensive unit.”
