Leadership – Windsor’s Juan Silva (#11) and Emma Corcoran (#20) will be key players for their respective varsity soccer teams in the North Coast Section Division 2 playoffs this week.

Jaguars open tournament with road matches
Hard work and perseverance paid off for Windsor High School varsity soccer teams, with both the boys’ and girls’ squads landing coveted spots in the North Coast Section, Division 2 playoffs.
The Windsor boys (5-9-5) were the final team selected at Sunday’s NCS seeding committee meeting, representing the #16 seed in the 16-team tournament. At press time, the Jaguars were preparing to open the playoffs against the #1 seeded Montgomery Vikings (at Elsie Allen High School) on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.  Should Windsor pull off an upset, it will meet the survivor of #8 Maria Carrillo versus #9 Mount Eden on Saturday, Feb. 16 (time and location TBD).
The Jags finished off a tough NBL Oak Division campaign with a pair of matches last week, bouncing back from a 2-1 loss at Rancho Cotate with a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Healdsburg. Friday’s tie with the Greyhounds was a well-played match between teams with contrasting styles, as Windsor countered Healdsburg’s build-up possession game with an up-tempo direct attack. Both teams would score in each half, with the Jaguars getting goals from senior Juan Silva and sophomore Oscar Palmerin to deadlock the contest at 2-2.
Lady Jags finish strong; land #10 seed
The Lady Jaguars (5-4-3, 7-9-3) will represent the #10 seed in the #16-team NCS Division 2 playoff tournament, opening up at #7 Bishop O’Dowd on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. If Windsor wins it will likely advance to face #2 ranked Montgomery in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Elsie Allen (time TBD).
The Lady Jaguars also finished NBL play on a high note last week, rebounding from a 3-0 loss to visiting Cardinal Newman on Feb. 7 with Saturday’s intense, 1-0 victory over visiting Analy. Alyna Gonzales scored the second-half goal with an assist from Mackenzie Hernandez. Goalie Olivia Holdenried recorded the shutout for Windsor.
