Connor Wong wins two events; advances to NCS meet
The Jaguars saved their best season effort for the right time at the North Bay League Championship meet on April 26 and 27, turning in an outstanding collective performance.
The meet, held on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus, pitted all 11 teams combined in both the NBL Oak and Redwood Divisions, making for fast times and ultra competitive races.
The Windsor boys captured an impressive fourth place as a team, one of their best finishes in years. The Jags were led by double champion Connor Wong, who successfully defended his titles in both the 100 butterfly (50.87) and 200 IM (1:58.08). Wong moves on to the prestigious North Coast Section Championships on May 3 and 4 in Concord, seeded fourth in the 100 butterfly and 26th in the 200 IM.
Also logging standout efforts at the NBL meet for the varsity boys were Sam Ampuero (eighth place 200 freestyle, seventh place 100 backstroke), Caden Hailey (sixth place 500 freestyle), Justin Hume (seventh place 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Justice Toupin (eighth place 500 freestyle) and Jared Boettger (10th place 50 and 100 freestyle). In addition the 200 freestyle relay team of Ampuero, Hume, Boettger and Wong took second place, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Boettger, Hailey, Hume and Wong finish in fifth place.
Leading the way for the varsity girls were the fifth place 200 freestyle relay team of Julie Glarner, Riley West, Gianna Lowry and Marie Rosettie) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Solana Jolly, Ava Smith, Riley West and Gianna Lowry, who took seventh overall.
In addition, the 200 medley relay team of Sophia Romero, Madison Alton, Anna Whiteley and Glarner finished in eighth place.
“It has been a huge year of growth and speed for the Jaguars,” WHS coach Kelli Wong said. “We have a strong team that will continue to get stronger. We had a great season this year and are looking forward to a fabulous season next year.”
