The Jaguars are sniffing the finish line in the North Bay League Redwood Division baseball chase, maintaining the top spot in the standings with a pair of wins over El Molino.
Windsor began its latest stretch with yet another rain-out on April 15, but closed it out with a clean sweep over the Lions in a road and home series.
At the start of play this week the Jags (8-1, 13-4-1) held a game and a half lead over second place Piner (6-2) in the NBL hierarchy, followed by Santa Rosa (5-4), El Molino (2-6) and Healdsburg (0-8).
Windsor will resume league action on April 22 (after press time) and visit Santa Rosa on Thursday, April 25 (4 p.m.). The Jaguars will entertain Alameda in a non-league contest on Saturday, April 27 (noon) and host Piner in a key home and away set on May 1 and 3.
Jags sweep Lions
Windsor traveled to Forestville in the first of two dates with El Molino on April 17, with the Lions taking advantage of key hits and a Jags’ error to grab an early 4-0 lead. Starting pitcher Gary Hall handed the ball to Matt Kemper in the fifth, and the Jaguars climbed back into it with three-run sixth to trail 4-3.
Windsor loaded the bases in the seventh inning, getting a perfect squeeze bunt from Will Matthews to tie the game.
The Jags scored the winning runs on an El Mo throwing error, and Cameron Hayman closed it out to secure a 6-4 win.
Pacing the offensive attack were Matthews (3 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Cy Soltanizadeh (1 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Brett Boudrow (1 for 3, 2B, run), Joseph Soltanizadeh (1 for 3, RBI), Hayman (1 for 4) and F.J. Freenor (1 for 1, run).
Windsor played host to the Lions on Friday, this time getting a dominant, six-inning three-hit, 11 strikeout performance from ace pitcher Tyler Hellums. The Jags got all the runs they would need on run-scoring singles from Hayman and Boudrow in the fourth and Hayman tossed a perfect seventh inning to close out a 2-0 victory. El Mo starter Chris Romeo (6IP, 4 hits, ER, 2 Ks) took a tough loss for the Lions.
Top hitters for the Jaguars were Matthews (3 for 3, run), Hayman (1 for 3, RBI) and Boudrow (RBI).
