Senior Center in Larkfield
There is a proposal for a Carlton Senior Living center in Larkfield on the books.
I’ve heard many thoughts and concerns. The Citizens Advisory Council will be discussing it at the next meeting. It’s a new council, set up to advise Supervisor James Gore on anything about the Mark West area.
They will be meeting the second Monday of every month (unless there happens to be nothing for the agenda, that month). Next meeting will be Nov. 14 in the boardroom at the Mark West School District office on Mark West Springs Road at 6 pm. The Carlton Senior Living Center will be on the agenda.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The job of the council is to review proposals and also to report what the citizens of this community want.
This is the place to voice your concerns about a homeless camp, or something you would like to see happen (or not happen) in your community. This council can and will listen and take your concerns to the Board of Supervisors.
Winter coat drive Oct. 21 – Dec. 9
The North Bay Association of Realtors is collecting coats of all kinds. There is a huge need for children and adult coats, especially large and extra large adult sizes. Send a text to Glen Hurley at 707 321-9262. A local realtor, he is collecting them in this area. If you text him, he will make arrangements to pick them up.
The coats will be distributed to the Redwood Covenant Church charities, the Catholic Charities homeless service center, the Redwood Gospel Mission and Vets Connect. These charities serve a large portion of our homeless population and local low-income individuals and families.
Halloween candy
There is a movement in our community to identify homes that are passing out allergy-free candy on Halloween. Go to larkfield.nextdoor.com to view the discussion and perhaps join in. Or go to https://www.foodallergy.org. There’s a pumpkin project to guide anyone interested in letting trick-or-treaters know that you have allergy free candy.
Roundup on the school grounds
Last month I said I would report on what happened about the Roundup on the school grounds in Mark West, in response to some parents’ concerns. Though the school board got word that community members were possibly coming to the October meeting, no one showed up or addressed the board members. They never received an official request from anyone wishing to address the board regarding the Roundup concerns. Perhaps there will be more on this issue at a later date.
