Margaret Nail retires from Windsor Fire District business office – July 13, 1988
It’s hard to believe that Margaret Nail has only been involved with the Windsor Fire District three years. In such a short time she had made such notable difference and become such a mainstay of the department that those who didn’t know better would just assume that someone as dedicated to the district she is must have been born and raised right here. Windsor Fire Chief Ron Collier said, “Nobody want to see her leave. She has been my right arm and will be impossible to replace.”

DuVanders selling bits of Windsor history – July 27, 1988
In his long and fruitful life Don DuVander had collected just about everything from baby carriages to thrashing machines. It took Don’s wife Irene almost three years after Don passed away before she was willing to even think of doing anything with the three barns full of “stuff.” To the newcomer, the name DuVander may not sound familiar but Don DuVander was a native son. Born in Santa Rosa, at age 1 his family moved to a ranch on Pleasant Avenue. In 1933 he married Irene. In 1947, with Don’s cousin Pat Elsbree, the DuVanders bought 320 acres of land along Brooks Road. Irene can remember when the Lakewood Hills Shopping Center was prune orchards. “Our dehydrator was where the post office is now.” Irene said. But she doesn’t begrudge any of it. “You can’t hold back progress.” She said. “In my lifetime I’ve seen from horse and buggies to men in space.” No, progress doesn’t bother her. She even kind of likes the idea of “Windsor getting a new facelift.”
