Around Town: Elections

As local elections start to heat up (mail-in ballots go out the first week in October), there are more and more opportunities to hear the candidates speak on various issues.

According to a statement, the Windsor Democrats will hear from three Democratic Party-endorsed candidates for Windsor Town Council on Thursday, Sept. 27. In addition, the club will consider actions they can take to support candidates and issues that are on the ballot.
The three candidates for council who have the Sonoma County Democratic Party endorsement are Sam Salmon, Esther Lemus and Billy Forrest.
The Windsor Democratic Club meets the fourth Thursday of every month (this month it’s Sept. 27) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Windsor Round Table Pizza, 8499 Old Redwood Highway. Free pizza is served.
For those who are concerned about preserving arts programs in Windsor’s schools, Windsor Arts Now is preparing to let school board candidates express their views.
According to a statement from Windsor Arts Now, the California Alliance for Arts Education conducts an arts survey of school board candidates throughout the state of California and reports its findings publicly. Surveys were sent to all of the Windsor Unified School District board candidates on Sept. 17. 
According to the statement, the Alliance’s Candidate Survey Project invites local school board candidates to go on record with their views about the role of arts education in local schools. The results, published on the Alliance website (http://www.artsed411.com), will be available before the November election, giving the public a way to learn more about candidates’ views on arts education policy before they vote.
Interested parties can hear more about the survey and the status of the arts in Windsor by attending the next Windsor Arts Now meeting on Oct. 10, at 5 p.m., at Art & Soul School of Creative & Performing Arts, 9064 Brooks Road South, in the Safeway shopping center.
