A sign of bad manners?
We’ve heard that two of our town council candidates, Mark Millan and Esther Lemus, have been the victims of sign theft and vandalization.

“Tampering with campaign signs is illegal and prosecutable,” said town manager John Jansons in an email. “We have had some unfortunate incidents already, and while people are passionate, we don’t need to be wasting our police department resources on responding to dirty tricks of candidate signs being stolen or vandalized.”
According to Jansons, there have been at least two incidents, and all candidates received a reminder email from the deputy town clerk Irene Camacho-Werby reminding them of the Code of Fair Campaign Practices, and asking for anyone witnessing any suspicious activity to come forward.
Hopefully, these are foolish pranks, and not a sign that the national political discord has found its way to our fair hamlet.
But just in case, if you think theft or vandalism is an appropriate way to express your political views, then you are missing the point. So knock it off, and go to the voting booth and let your vote be the loudest expression of your views.
Support for Spirit Day
Oct. 18 is Spirit Day, a day to show support for LGBTQ youth, as part of National Bullying Prevention Month. LGBTQ Connection is a local group headlining the event here in Sonoma County. They ask that people consider wearing purple in solidarity with the LGBTQ youth of our community. More information about Spirit Day, including information about their open house, wearing purple the viral social media campaign and more is at http://lgbtqconnection.org.
Un-happy anniversary
Oct. 8 marked one year since my life and the life of everyone I know was changed forever by the devastating wildfires of October 2017. Anniversaries can be an odd thing — depending on where you find yourself, they can be either a celebration of how far you’ve come, or a stark reminder of how stuck you are.
Whether you are on the move or stuck in quicksand, I hope Oct. 8 wasn’t too rough for you. I hope there was a glimmer of light, a flash of silver lining, or some other sign than the future will be bright.
