Why would Freddy, a Brazilian tortoise, be indebted to a 3D printer?
In 2016, a forest fire burned 85 percent of Freddy’s shell.  The “Animal Avengers” came to his rescue and reconstructed all of the reptile’s shell, layer by layer, thanks to a 3D printer.  This wasn’t their first patient; they also created artificial beaks for injured toucans, a parrot and a goose.

Scientists are excited about the 3D possibilities: making shoes from plastic ocean waste, saving oceans with printed coral reefs, getting essential goods and services to disaster areas and refugee camps, or customizing pipe parts necessary for sanitation infrastructure in case of an earthquake. 3D printers have the power to change lives.
Wouldn’t it be great to craft and custom print your own pizza?  That will take an advanced system, but you can learn how to design and print a simpler object now with our library’s 3D Printer, for free. Just check the events calendar for a 3D Printing workshop, and then sign up for an available time slot (https://sonomalibrary.org/node/44940).  Library staff and volunteers will be happy to help you.
Also this month, you can participate in the annual LibrarySing-Along:
