Well, here we are a year into the recovery. I think we’re all a little nervous with these high winds. In spite of that, there’s lots of resilience and recovery going on.
There were several celebrations in our neighborhoods and no telling how many throughout the county. The ones in our neighborhoods were extremely positive. The atmosphere for the one I attended was definitely focused on enjoying being together and looking towards a better future. From my point of view it appeared that all negative feelings were left at home. It was such a joy to see children running and playing in the street while the grownups visited and ate the potluck food that so many brought to share.
I’ve been told the other celebrations were just as positive and uplifting.
The celebration at Shiloh Regional Park had over 400 people. It was more than a celebration of recovery for people, it included the open space lands that so many people enjoy and a reminder of how valuable they are to us. They had, among other things, a Native American ceremony with dancing and arts and crafts.
The Community Soil Foundation gave out trees to those who wanted them to help re-vegetate their properties with native plants.
Community Soil Foundation is still offering trees donated by Harmony Farms in Sebastopol. They will have them at the community garden in Larkfield on the third Saturday of the month, each month. I’m not sure how long it will last, but they are growing the little trees.

A little further south, in honor of the one year anniversary, a group of students, all selected from each of the schools in Mark West, planted trees in the park in the Mark West Estates neighborhood.
That’s a fitting statement that we in Mark West are looking to the future.
