Dine and donate to a local hero

The Windsor and Rincon Valley fire protection districts are asking for help for one of their own. Greg Way, a Rincon Valley Fire Volunteer, was a dozer operator fighting the Complex Fire in Mendocino County last year when he was seriously injured. Way’s road to recovery is a long one and his care is costly.
The district wants to assist with financial support for Way and his family during this challenging time.
Dine at KC’s American Kitchen on the Windsor Town Green for breakfast, lunch or dinner on Feb. 28 and a portion of your payment goes directly to Way’s recovery
Rain, Rain . . . give us a break?
After so many years of drought, I find myself, as a California native, unable to say, “Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day,” since here in Cali we live with the very real fear of the rain having a snit, taking its toys and going home, and staying away for several years.
That being said, Atmospheric River 2.0 (or is it 3.0), is starting to wear me down just a little bit. I am, I must admit, a bit tired of gray skies, feeling perpetually damp and the fact that I am no longer a farmer of goats, chicken and horses, but rather, apparently, a farmer of mud. Lots and lots of mud.
The thing is, this is the type of winter I remember from my childhood in Sonoma County. Warm-ish, and very, very wet. Nothing like the cold, dry winters we’ve suffered through rather regularly over the last decade.
My husband, who’s only lived here since 2006, when we moved back home, has been a little overwhelmed by a true SoCo winter. But even though he isn’t a native, he’s learned to voice his complaints in whispers and jokes, lest we anger the rain and make it leave again for several years.
So rain, don’t go away exactly, but feel free to go on a holiday somewhere. If you want to come back, maybe do so in a month or so. Or, you know, the fall.
