It is my pleasure to be able to share with you some of the highlights that have been happening at Brooks Elementary so far this year. First and foremost, our wonderful teachers are busy with making daily preparations and plans to address the learning needs of all students, regardless of where they come from, their economic status, race or religion deserves to grow and develop their talents. At Brooks, we embrace diversity and have high expectations for all.
During our first trimester, we have had so many opportunities for growth and development at Brooks. Whether it is our student government, music lessons, after school programming, library time, sports and games, reading, writing, math, art or social emotional learning our students have been busy learning. We have a “Be Kind” campaign where we practice kindness and during our morning meetings, teachers and students model and practice listening, empathy and kindness to each other.
We had a very busy run up through the finish of 2018. Some of the highlights include over 125 participants of Bike to School Days (the first Wednesday of each month; our Project HERO fundraiser brought into $19,000 (Thank you!); construction of our new library and media center begins; we held over 60 student learning support meetings; and student council representatives were elected. In addition, we held three visual and performing arts assemblies with the Windsor High School drumline, San Francisco Opera and the Windsor Middle School musical; twenty-four hours of after school tutoring; we started Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports and Keeping Kids in School programs. I host a “Principal’s Café” monthly.
Looking back is always fun, but we focus on the present and prepare for the future. Now, we are in the middle of our second trimester, which ends on February 22. We will continue to prepare each student for academic, social-emotional, physical growth every day.
Lastly, we are ecstatic about and look forward to expanding our Brooks school community by welcoming in the current second grade teachers and students at Windsor Creek Elementary. Logistically speaking, there are a lot of details that we want to get right and the campus is a buzz with anticipation.
