It¹s been a very successful month for Windsor Little League
all-stars, with the 9-10 year-old team the latest to capture a
tournament championship.
The local squad, led by manager Rich Robello and coaches Shannon
McAlvain and Nohl Mckenna, completed a great post-season run by
sweeping the Central Area, District-35 tournament with four
straight victories.
Windsor soundly defeated Healdsburg, 18-0, followed by wins over
Rincon Valley, 15-2 and Santa Rosa American, 6-2. The boys went on
to post a 9-2 win over Mark West to claim the tournament
championship.
³It was a joy to coach a great bunch of kids who worked hard
everyday and improved tremendously,² manager Rich Robello said.
³I¹d like to thank the parents who sacrificed a big part of their
summer to support their kids.²
In a well-rounded effort, the Windsor all-stars got the job done
with a balance of exceptional pitching, clutch hitting and great
defense. The team also excelled with an outstanding display of
³small ball² against Santa Rosa in the semi-finals, using key bunts
and timely hitting to break open a tight game.
The Central Area title advanced Windsor to the District-35
championship tournament in Petaluma, where they won a pair of games
before falling in the championship bracket to a tough Petaluma
Valley team.
The 9-10 Little League all-star roster included: Austin Calos,
Christian Roberge, Jeff Rebello, Colin McAlvain, Ridge Etchell,
Troy Kennedy, Jakob Vieyra, Connor Head, Scott Reynolds, Matt
Blumenthal, Jalen Roman and Jalylind Perry.
