The Lady Greyhound basketball program wrapped up an outstanding
summer of hoops on Sunday, capturing fourth-place in its own Summer
Heat tournament.
The 16-team tournament, which serves as the program¹s biggest
fundraiser, was split into four pools of four teams each and was
arguably one of the strongest fields in several years.
Participating teams included: Elsie Allen, Kelseyville, San
Marin, Analy, McKinleyville, Terra Linda, Eureka, Las Plumas,
Novato, Windsor, Santa Rosa, Terra Nova, Sonoma, Ursuline,
Healdsburg-1 and Healdsburg-2.
The McKinleyville Lady Panthers took home the championship
trophy, as they swept through the tournament before defeating Elsie
Allen in Sunday¹s title game.
Healdsburg-1 finished as one of the elite teams, emerging from
pool play undefeated. The ladies won five of seven games played
over a three-day period, including wins over Elsie Allen, 44-26,
Terra Nova, 35-31, San Marin, 44-20, Kelseyville, 46-18 and Novato,
38-37. The Lady Hounds fell to eventual champion McKinleyville on
Sunday in the semi-finals, 44-38 before falling to Ursuline, 41-37
in the battle for third place.
³Overall, it was a great tournament that ran very smoothly,²
said Healdsburg-1 coach and tourney Director Sal Costanzo. ³I want
to thank all the local businesses that advertised in our program
and all the parents who donated their time.²
The Healdsburg-1 squad included: Courtney Carlson, Emily
Ransford, Carli Thomas, Marlee Spadoni, Kassidy Brush, Jeniece
Alvey, Addison Brush, Anne Loupy, Tara Besancon, Becky Thompson,
Tiffany Beth, Charity Stine, Lauren Rudy, Erin Carlson, Morgan
Murphy and Cathy Schmersal.

‹ Spadoni (11), Beth (6) and Alvey (6); Kelseyville ‹ Alvey (10)

Healdsburg-2, a team made up of JV players and incoming
freshmen, also turned in a strong weekend showing, opening with a
win over Analy, 27-25 before falling to Terra Linda, McKinleyville,
Santa Rosa, Kelseyville and Analy in a rematch.
The Healdsburg-2 contingent was led by coaches Jackie Henderson
and Jim Lago, and consisted of Alex Stauffer, Vanessa Soto, Gianna
Passalacqua, Alicia Avila, Pam Dadaos, Shelby Lago, Stephanie
Lozinto, Katie Schroeder, Nicole Conklin, Claire Bingham, Courtney
