The high school cross-country season officially got underway for
the Jaguars last Friday at the annual Rancho Cotate Invitational
meet held in Rohnert Park.
The meet, contested on a relatively flat, 2.75-mile course under
nearly ideal racing conditions, led to some very fast times. In
all, some 15 schools were represented, including five in the Sonoma
County League, showcasing many of the area¹s best runners. Races
were held for both JV and varsity boys and girls.
The Jags sent a small contingent of runners to the starting
line, led by 2005 SCL girl¹s cross-country champion Laura Rogina.
The fleet-footed sophomore got off to a solid start this season,
finishing 14th overall in the varsity girl¹s race in a time of
18:31. She was followed by teammates Alex Banuet (24th- 19:23) and
Stephanie Patterson (41st- 20:40).
Garrett Baker led the varsity boy¹s contingent with a strong,
31st-place effort of 16:15. Other Windsor finishers included: Mark
Henry (44th- 16:53) and Kyle Ibrahim (73rd- 18:38). In addition,
the Jags had several other runners competing in the JV boy¹s race,
although no official times were available.
Next up for Windsor¹s cross-country squad is the Viking
Invitational meet at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa on Saturday, Sept.
16. The Sonoma County League season kicks off on October 11 against
Petaluma.
