Analy and El Molino girls soccer teams made the most of their outings last week, both scoring lopsided shutout victories over Healdsburg.
At press time Analy (8-2, 4-0) was all alone atop the Sonoma County League standings near the halfway mark, with an upcoming home match scheduled against Sonoma Valley (Sept. 27), followed by a visit to El Molino this Thursday, Sept. 29 (5/7 p.m.). The Tigers will begin their second trip around the SCL circuit when they travel to Petaluma next Tuesday, Oct. 3 (5/7 p.m.).
This week, the Lions (6-2, 2-2) played a scrimmage with Tech High on Sept. 27 (after press time) before hosting Analy on Sept. 29 in the first of two season meetings. El Mo will entertain Sonoma Valley on Oct. 4 (5/7p.m.).
Lions blank Greyhounds
El Molino took full advantage of its Sept. 22 clash with visiting Healdsburg, gaining separation with goals from Cinthya Hernandez, Risa Scott-Smith, Carly Hittenmiller, and Hayley Sheridan in a 4-0 shutout.
Although the win came against an over-matched Healdsburg squad, the play by the Lion’s back line of defenders drew praise from their coach.
“Bridgett Nicleas (goalie) and our defenders Chloe Kliegl, Grace Anderson, Kristine Daniels and Areli Alvarez have been playing amazing,” El Mo coach Emily Farrant said. “Carly and Risa in the middle have been playing great along with our two Haileys – Sheridan and Styskal. Overall we’ve had trouble scoring in tight situations, but are getting better and better each game.”
Tigers in a runaway
The defending SCL champion Tigers also had their way against the visiting Hounds on Sept. 20 at Karlson Field, scoring early and often while emptying their bench en route to a 6-0 rout.
Goal scorers for Analy included Sydney Hargrave (2); Isabel Housman (2), Ana Hernandez and Emily Gritsch. Assists went to Hernandez (3), Claire Brown, Bella Niedermair and Amanda Nebozuk.
“The girls played very well,” Tigers coach Brittney Briones reported, before citing several outstanding performances from her charges. “We moved the ball well through the midfield and up to our forwards. We were able to possess the ball and make runs off of each other Lilli Ziemer and Sydney Hargrave played several great balls through to our forwards. Hargrave, Lilli Ziemer, and Claire Brown helped keep our midfield solid and moved the ball great, she added.”
