Lady Tigers seeded second in league playoff tourney
Local high school girls teams finished up their respective Sonoma County League schedules last week, one playing its final game while the other moves on to the postseason.
The second place Analy Lady Tigers (10-2, 17-9) will be doing the latter this week, representing the number two seed in the four-team SCL Playoff Tournament.
The Tigers open up on Thursday, Feb. 16 against third-seeded Healdsburg in a 7 p.m. tilt, with the winner advancing to play the survivor of the Sonoma Valley-Piner game in a tourney title clash on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Santa Rosa Junior College (6 p.m.).
Analy is also a virtual lock to land a spot in the upcoming North Coast Section Division 3 playoffs, which start next week. The seeding committee will meet on Feb. 19 to fill out the divisional brackets.
Analy wrapped up the regular season schedule with a pair of wins last week, soundly defeating Elsie Allen (47-29) and Piner (52-33).
The Tigers paid homage to seniors Bailey Hunter, Sophie McFadin, Bella Niedermair, Maddie Strom and Kayla Cullen before taking the court in their Feb. 7 meeting with Elsie Allen, using the added emotion in racing to a 20-4 lead. Analy led 31-14 at the half. The Tigers made wholesale substitutions in the final two quarters in cruising to a 47-29 rout.
Niedermair led the way with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Other top scorers included Hunter (8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals), Alexis Dibene (7 points, 2 boards, 2 steals), Claire Brown (6 points, 2 rebounds), McFadin (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), Lauren Lehmann (3 points), Isabel Housman (2 points), Aleah Armstrong (2 points, 2 rebounds), Strom (2 points, 2 boards) and Sierra Atkins (1 point, 1 rebound).
Analy traveled to Piner for the league finale on Feb. 9, limiting the Prospectors to single digits in the first two periods to grab a 25-12 half-time lead. The Tigers busted it wide open in the third quarter and were never threatened en route to a 52-33 win.
Niedermair was sensational in pouring in a team-high 17 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Other good efforts were had by McFadin (13 points, 7 boards) and Hunter (5 points).
Lions fall to Greyhounds Â
El Molino (2-12, 4-22) hit the road on Feb. 8 for its season finale at Healdsburg, spotting the Hounds a 14-6 first-quarter lead. Healdsburg led 26-11 at the half. The Lions trailed 40-17 after three en route to a 53-30 loss.
