Local teams piling up wins heading into second half of season
Lions and Tigers and Lobos, oh my.
Analy and El Molino varsity teams got just what the doctor ordered in limited varsity baseball action last week, both running roughshod over an overmatched Elsie Allen squad in a pair of identical 10-0 ballgames.
The Tiger’s romp over the winless Lobos kept them knotted with Petaluma atop the Sonoma County League standings at 5-0, followed by Sonoma Valley (4-3), El Molino (2-3), Piner (2-4), Healdsburg (1-3) and Elsie Allen (0-6).
At press time, Analy (12-4 overall) was preparing to visit Sonoma Valley in a key SCL clash at Arnold Field on April 25 (7 p.m.) before returning home to host Healdsburg on Friday, April 28 (4 p.m.).
Meanwhile, El Molino (9-6 overall) was scheduled to entertain Piner on April 25 and will host Petaluma on Thursday, April 27 in a make-up date. The Lions will wrap up a busy home-stand on Friday, April 28 against Sonoma Valley. All games start at 4 p.m.
Lions, Tigers maul Lobos
The Lions played host to Elsie Allen in an April 21 tilt in Forestville, staking pitcher Garrett Crane to a sizable early lead. The El Mo bats erupted for two runs in the opening frame and added two more in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth en route to a 10-0 shellacking in six innings.
Crane (6 IP, 2 hits, 2 BBs, 6 Ks) logged his best outing of the year to earn the victory, while top Lions hitters included Wesley Hamner (2 for 3, 2B, 2 runs, RBI), Jake Peter (2 for 4, 2B, run, 2 RBIs), Curtis Lewis (2 for 3, run, RBI), Sam Wilson-Mietz (2 for 3, 3B, 3 runs, RBI), Bradley Swinney (1 for 3), Eric Nils-Carlson (1 for 3, run) and Shane Spelman (2 RBIs).
Analy’s April 20 visit to Elsie Allen resulted in a similar outcome, with Tiger pitchers Even Peelen, Jack Newman and Jordan Parks all firing two innings of no-hit ball. Analy pushed across three runs in the second, third and sixth innings to force an early stoppage in a 10-0 rout.   Â
