The four-time defending league champion Analy girls soccer team has not skipped a beat in its quest for a five-peat, scoring three more wins on the Sonoma County League circuit in pushing their record to a perfect 5-0.
The Tigers (8-1-2 overall) scored recent shutout wins over Elsie Allen (7-0), Piner (3-0) and Healdsburg (7-0). Sophomore goalie Kaija Bazzano notched all three shutouts.
Analy played well in bursts against Elsie Allen, getting goals from Jaden Grude (2), Lily Ziemer, Zaida Jenkins, Maisy Butler, Isa Gilbraith and Tannin Klunis. Assist went to Gilbraith (2), Riley Yates (2), Thora Butler, Prisca Niedermair and Ziemer.
Finding the net against Piner were Jenkins, Claire Brown and Butler, with assists from Isabel Housman (2) and Gilbraith.
In the Jan. 15 meeting with Healdsburg, the Tigers got goals from Butler (2), Grude, Deja Burry, Brown, Yates and Ziemer. Assists went to Emily Gritsch (2), Brown and Burry.
Analy will be back on the pitch this week upcoming home dates against Sonoma Academy (Jan. 17) and Sonoma Valley (Jan. 19). Analy will host El Molino in the second and final meeting on Jan. 24. All varsity matches start at 7 p.m.
“Even though we beat Elsie Allen and Piner we played very flat during both games and just did not play well overall,” veteran Analy coach Brittney Briones said before turning her attention to upcoming games with Sonoma Academy and Sonoma Valley. “It’s going to be a tough week but we look forward to the challenge.”
Lions battling on pitch
The Lions notched their first win of the SCL campaign on Jan. 12, jumping all over the host Elsie Allen Lobos in a 9-1 rout.
El Molino began their latest stretch with 4-1 loss to Sonoma Valley. Senior forward Carly Hittenmiller scored for the Lions. El Mo squared off with visiting Petaluma on Jan. 10, dropping a 5-2 decision. Lily Dittman tallied both goals for the Lions.
“We’ve had a bit of a slow start getting our feet under us,” El Mo coach Emily Farrant reported. “We’re slowly getting better each game.”
The Lions (3-6, 1-3) will hit the road for upcoming matches at Sonoma Academy (Jan. 19, 6 p.m.) and Analy (Jan. 24, 7 p.m.).
