Athletes rounding into form as postseason approaches
El Molino and Analy wrestlers continued to round into form with a busy week on the high school mat, competing in both Sonoma County League and tournament action.
The Lions played host to Piner on Jan. 23 while the Tigers entertained Healdsburg in a pair of dual meets. Both events featured numerous forfeits, as El Mo defeated the Prospectors (48-18) while Analy fell to the Greyhounds (39-15).
Scoring mat wins for El Mo were 126-pound Wyatt Ayers (by fall) and 182-pound Sire Clark (by fall). Analy’s 134-pounder Jimmy Carreras logged the lone mat win for the Tigers.
The Lions played host to the Tigers and Elsie Allen Lobos in a tri-meet on Jan. 25 with the Lions recording a clean sweep, scoring team wins over Analy (31-12) and Elsie Allen (36-30).
At 182 pounds, Sire Clark notched the lone mat win in the Lions-Lobos match by fall. Scoring mat wins in the Lions-Tigers match were El Mo’s 126-pound Asher Weathersbee (by fall), 132-pound Angel Aguilar (by 5-1 decision) and 152-pound Nate Wheeler (by major decision). Analy winners included 113-pound Preston Bagan (by fall) and 120-pound Zach Fogg (by fall).
On Saturday, both teams sent a small contingent to the annual Puma Classic Tournament at Maria Carrillo. El Mo’s Sire Clark had a great day, going 4-1 to take home a seventh place medal. Other El Mo results included 172-pound sophomore Coleman Hayes (8th place), 108-pound freshman Erik Dimond (2-2), 122-pound freshman Zavier Grech (0-2), 126-pound Asher Weathersbee (0-2) and 134-pound Angel Aguilar (1-2).
Leading the way for Analy at the Puma Classic were 122-pound senior Trevor Bagan (3 rd place), 113-pound Preston Bagan (0-2), 132-pound Jimmy Carreras (0-2) and 152-pound Lorenzo Robles (0-2).
