Basketball victories come in all shapes and sizes and many are not bound by the constraints of mere wins and losses.
That was the sentiment in the annual battle for West County girls hoops supremacy on Jan 5 in Sebastopol, as the home-standing Analy Lady Tigers held off a game and determined El Molino Lion’s squad to post a well-played 47-38 win.
“It was the best varsity game we’ve played,” El Mo head coach Keith Nordby stated later.
The victory, coupled with Analy’s 65-26 rout over Elsie Allen two nights earlier, pushed the Tiger’s season record to an even 8-8 and 2-0 in league, while the Lions fell to 4-10 and 0-1.
Analy’s Sierra Atkins led the attack against El Mo with a team-high 12 points, while other top scorers were Lucia Jameau (10 points), Aleah Armstrong (7 points, 4 rebounds), Leah Lawrence (6 points), Isabel Housman (5 points) and two points apiece from Lauren Murnin, Minh Tam Le and Claire Brown. Armstrong poured in 16 points while pulling down 12 rebounds against Elsie Allen.
Pacing the Lions’ offense against Analy were Hailey Sheridan (14 points), Hailee Walker (12 points) and freshman Yasmin Sierra (8 points).
