Jack Fricker puts on show; sets meet record in Pentathlon
The Running Lions showcased their versatility and athleticism at the North Coast Extravaganza track & field meet on Saturday at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, an event that featured many of the top high school athletes in the Redwood Empire.
The meet featured a variety of events and included a pentathlon, a competition highlighting the all-around abilities of participating athletes.
El Molino senior Jack Fricker put on a show with a performance for the ages, capturing first place in the pentathlon in a meet record 3,005 points.
In the event, Fricker took first place in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.34), first in the shot put (41’ 11”), first in the long jump (20’ 8”),  second in the high jump (5’ 2”) and second in the 800 meters (2:11.66). 
Other top efforts for the El Molino boys included Clay Serrano (1st place 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:03.26), Austin Kelsey (2nd place shot put, 41’ 4”), Avery Ransom (3rd place discus, 125’ 7”) and the 800-meter sprint relay team of Serrano, Avery Ransome, Ethan Ransome and Carmelo Salas (3rd place, 1:43.32). 
Outstanding performances for the varsity girls included El Mo’s Sara Flores (1st place discus, 100’ 11”), Hailey Styskal (2nd place 400 hurdles, 1:14.43) and Kailey Espinoza (3rd place triple jump, 30’ 1”).
In addition, the 4 x 200-meter relay team of Kiara Garcia-Lopez Jackie Ramirez, Espinoza and Styskal captured third place (1:57.48), while the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Jackie Ramirez, Ava Peterson, Evelin Ramirez and Emma Parks was second in 10:52.62.
