Analy wins three of four to wrap up tourney schedule
It’s been a productive summer for the Analy boys basketball program, playing a series of tournaments and over 30 games in their first off-season under new head coach Jason Carpenter.
The Tigers competed in their fifth and final tourney on July 14-15 at the annual Windsor Summer Shootout, capturing three wins in four outings.
Although no official scores or stats were kept, the Tigers recorded easy wins over Kelseyville, Maria Carrillo and Ukiah before losing a thriller over Windsor in Sunday’s finale.
As with any off-season program, Analy has placed far less emphasis on wins and losses than on improving strengths and exposing weaknesses, using the time to evaluate young players while bonding as a team.
“It was a great opportunity to play together one more time before the fall season,” Carpenter said following their final tournament on Sunday. “I’m very pleased with the progress made by all three teams in the program during the summer. We have much work to do between now and the start of the season, but we feel good about where we’re at.”
Standout players over the weekend included senior guards Quinn Vermeulen and Sam Housman and senior power forward Nic Visser.
The varsity summer roster also includes senior shooting guard JJ Fain, senior small forward Avi Gitlin, senior guard Brenden Martinez, junior center Kevin Wagner, junior guard J.T. Kee, junior forward Zac Eling, junior forward Alec Dierke, junior guard Sage Boek, junior forward David Siegel, guard Antonio Sanchez, guard/forward Chris Madson and sophomore guard Oliver Popko.
Assisting Carpenter with the varsity squad is veteran coach Chris Dluzak.
In addition to their summer tournament schedule, the Tigers were represented by frosh, JV and varsity teams in the bi-weekly Santa Rosa Junior College league. Last week, Analy scored an off-season highlight when all three teams defeated their counterparts from Cardinal Newman.
“It’s only summer league but the boys felt good about themselves,” Carpenter noted.
