It was a great day for West County high school athletes at the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Qualifier meet hosted by Santa Rosa High School on May 19, as El Molino and Analy combined to qualify a dozen athletes to the Meet of Champions (MOC).
Most athletes entered the NCS REQ with one goal in mind – a top seven finish in their respective event, a mark that would extend their season at least one more week and sustain hope of reaching the state championships next month.
The MOC, the last qualifier before the prestigious state meet, will be held this Friday and Saturday (May 25-26) at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley. Trials will begin on Friday, followed by the finals on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Lions was senior standout Jack Fricker, who logged MOC qualifying efforts in the 110 High Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Also moving on to the MOC are El Molino’s Austin Kelsey (Shot Put, Discus), Clay Serrano (300 Hurdles), Sara Flores (Discus), Kassidy Sani (Discus) and Lily Krauss (Shot Put).
Analy’s MOC qualifiers included Bennett Simpson (100, 200 Meters), Alec Dierke (800 Meters), Ethan DelMonte (Pole Vault), Sierra Atkins (1,600 Meters), Maddie Windsor (400 Meters) and Margaux Jame (100 High Hurdles).
In addition, the Analy girls 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Sierra Atkins, Juliet Capriola, Gabrielle Dahlen and Margaux Jame took third overall and will also compete at the MOC.
