The local high school girls basketball season is nearing the halfway mark in the North Bay League this week, as the Lions and Tigers negotiate a challenging schedule in their respective divisions.
El Molino (2-2, 11-9) logged one win in two recent outings, bouncing back from a 74-44 blowout loss to Rancho Cotate with a 63-46 rout over Elsie Allen.
At press time the Lady Lions were prepping for upcoming games at Maria Carrillo (Jan. 22) and home against Piner on Jan. 24. Tip-off times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The Jan. 15 visit to Rancho Cotate was decided in the second quarter, as the Cougars reeled off a 24-8 run that would gain separation en route to a 30-point margin of victory. Hailee Walker led the El Mo scoring attack with eight points.
It was all Lions two nights later at winless Elsie Allen, with the Lions taking control early in cruising to a 63-46 win. Walker continued to light it up with a team-high of 22 points, while freshman Ellie Roan chipped in 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Tigers fall to Panthers, Cardinals  Â
The Analy girls hit a bump in the road in a pair of NBL Oak Division games, falling to Santa Rosa (47-40) and Cardinal Newman (76-36).
This week the Tigers (1-5, 14-8) will visit Ukiah (Jan. 22) before coming home to host Windsor (Jan. 24) in a pair of key match-ups.
Analy logged one bad quarter in the Jan. 15 tilt at Santa Rosa, spotting the Panthers a 17-4 lead after one. The Tigers fought an uphill battle the rest of the way but eventually fell, 47-40. Top scorers included Sierra Atkins (10), Minh-Tam Le (7), Bailey Alberigi (6), Luna Planty (5) and Lucia Jameau (5).
The Tigers were never in the game in their Jan. 17 clash with state-ranked Cardinal Newman, as the host Cardinals raced to a 48-18 halftime cushion en route to a 76-36 romp. Leading scorers were Lowenberg (7), Minh-Tam Le (6), Samantha Davis (6), Jameau (5), Aleah Armstrong (4) and Bre Lawrence (4).
