Tigers and Lions ‘Apple’ rematch for boys is Feb. 5
The El Molino boys soccer team has been one of the top stories of the winter campaign, continuing to make huge strides in the North Bay League Redwood Division.

The Lions (3-4, 4-7-1), who recorded their first league win since 2014 earlier this month, stretched their winning streak to three matches in a 1-0 win over Roseland University Prep on Jan. 23. The streak was snapped on Friday as El Mo fell at Cardinal Newman, 3-1.
The win over a solid Roseland University Prep squad was hard-fought from the outset, a match that featured great defense by Sergio Sanchez and Jacob Cibrian and a scoreless first half. The Lions pulled it out in the dying minutes of regulation on a goal by Jesse Gonzalez to emerge with a 1-0 victory.
“It was a tough and physical match,” El Mo coach Dave Rosales reported, citing standout efforts from strikers Logan Myers and Gonzales. “We had several chances in the first half but couldn’t get it in the back of the net.”
El Molino will start a two-match home-stand on Jan. 29 versus Maria Carrillo, followed by a Jan. 31 clash with Ukiah. Both varsity matches start at 6 p.m.
Tigers battle to scoreless tie
The Analy boys managed just one NBL match last week, following a Jan. 23 postponement when Ukiah’s field was deemed unplayable. The Tigers traveled to Maria Carrillo for a defensive battle on Friday, playing the Pumas to a 0-0 tie.
“We had the better of the play in the second half and were unlucky not to score,” Tigers coach Peter Meechan said.
Analy (1-3-2, 6-4-3) will host Roseland University Prep on Jan. 29 (after press time) and will visit Cardinal Newman on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. The Tigers will travel to El Molino in an “Apple” rematch on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.
