The postseason has arrived for Analy and El Molino girls basketball teams, as both get set for what is hoped will be strong playoff runs.
At press time the Lady Tigers (4-6, 17-9) were the No. 4 seed in the North Bay League Oak Division tournament, opening up on Feb. 5 at No. 1 ranked Cardinal Newman. Also looming large is a likely spot in the upcoming North Coast Section Division 3 playoffs, which start next week. The NCS seeding committee will meet this Sunday to fill out the divisional brackets.
The Lady Tigers closed out NBL play with a pair of home games last week, rebounding from a 52-32 loss to Montgomery on Jan. 29 with a 50-35 win over Santa Rosa on Jan. 31. Top scorers against the Vikings were Isabel Housman (8 points), Sierra Atkins (5 points) and Samantha Davis (5 points).
Pacing the Analy attack against the Panthers were Atkins (14 points), Lucia Jameau (8 points, 10 rebounds), Housman (7 points, 6 boards), Lucca Lowenberg (7 points), Minh-Tam Le (6 points) and Aleah Armstrong (6 points).
Lions fall in finales
The Lady Lions closed out the NBL Redwood Division schedule with home losses to Healdsburg (53-45) and Rancho Cotate (64-27) but finished in a tie for third place at 5-5 and 13-12 overall.
At the time of this writing, El Mo was to visit No. 1 seeded Rancho Cotate in the opening round of the league playoff tournament, with the winner slated to face the survivor of the No. 2 Piner versus No. 3 Healdsburg game at Analy High School on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.
Freshman Ellie Roan led the scoring attack with 12 points in the Jan. 29 clash with Healdsburg, while senior Grace Anderson added eight. Roan poured in a team-high 14 points two nights later against Rancho Cotate.
“We didn’t end the year as we’d hoped, but this is by far the best season we’ve had since I’ve been a part of this program,” El Mo coach Keith Nordby said.
