Fast times and outstanding performances were the rule at the inaugural North Bay League Track & Field Championships on May 1 and 3, as Analy and El Molino teams combined to qualify some two dozen athletes to the upcoming North Coast Section Redwood Empire Qualifier (NCS REQ) meet.
Held on the newly renovated Montgomery High School track in Santa Rosa, the goal for most athletes was a top six finish in their respective events, good for advancement to the NCS REQ on May 11 at Maria Carrillo High School, which starts at 9 a.m. Additionally, the top six marks (that didn’t qualify as a top six in league) will also advance to the NCS Redwood Empire meet.Â
The NBL meet combined all 12 teams in both the Oak and Redwood Divisions, with the trials run on May 1 and the final events contested on May 3.
Leading the way for the Lions was Kassidy Sani, who captured first place in the shot put (36 feet, 1.5 inches), second in the discus (115 feet, 6 inches) and fifth in the triple jump (31 feet, 5 inches). Other NCS REQ qualifiers for El Mo were Ethan Ransome (300 meter intermediate hurdles), Austin Kelsey (shot put, discus) and Jeanne Broome (400 meters). Also advancing are the El Molino boys 4×100 meter relay team and the girls 4×400 meter relay team.
Analy also qualified some of its top athletes to the NCS REQ, including Sierra Atkins (800, 1,600 meters), Maddie Windsor (400 meters) and Carolina Dawson (1,600 meters).
