The weather has not been kind to local high school softball teams this month, as Analy and El Molino scramble to get preseason games in.
Both teams saw limited action last week: the Tigers logging one win in two outings, while the Lions won in their lone outing on March 4.
With skies clearing, both teams should get in a full slate of action this week, as Analy plays host to Petaluma (March 12, after press time) and Sonoma Valley (March 14, 4 p.m.), while El Mo entertains St. Helena (March 12) and Middletown (March 14, 4 p.m.). The Lions will compete in the annual Cloverdale Tournament on March 15 and 16.
Tigers gain split
Analy kicked off the 2019 campaign on March 7 at Drake High School in San Anselmo, jumping all over Pirate’s pitching en route to a 10-1 rout. The Tigers rode the hot hand of pitcher Carson Rasmussen, who fired seven innings of three-hit ball while fanning six for the victory. Top hitters included Samantha Caughie (2 for 2, 2 2Bs, run, RBI), Rasmussen (2 for 3, 2 2Bs, 3 RBIs), Emma Bowen (2 for 4, 2 runs, RBI), Elliot Gorath (2 for 3, 2B, 2 runs, RBI), Chloe Hadrich (2 for 4, 2 runs), Leah Lawrence (2 for 4, 2 2Bs, run, 2 RBIs) and Makayla Kraemer (1 for 4, run).
Analy played host to Casa Grande on March 8, this time coming out on the short end of a 4-3 score. Rasmussen (7 IP, 10 hits, 2 ERs, 3 Ks) deserved a better fate, while leading hitters were Rasmussen (2 for 4, run), Caughie (1 for 3, 2B, run), Kraemer (1 for 3, run), Hadrich (1 for 3, RBI), Olivia Franceschi (1 for 3, 2B) and Leah Lawrence (1 for 3, 2B, RBI).
Lions notch “W”
El Molino served notice of perhaps a much improved season in a March 4 visit to Novato, easily besting the Hornets, 7-3. Freshman Peyton Hamner (5 IP, 4 hits, ER, 5 Ks) earned the win while freshman Katelyn Tourady (2 IP, 2 hits, ER, K) saw action in relief. Pacing the El Mo attack were Taylor Carter (2 for 4, 2B, 2 runs), Ahnicka Kjaer (2 for 4, 2 RBIs), Erica Olson (2 for 3, 2 runs), Bella Gaab (2 for 4, run, RBI), Tourady (1 for 4, run, 2 RBIs), Grace St. Marie (1 for 3) and Bridget Niclaes (1 for 2, run, RBI).
